    ASDIN 4th Annual Scientific Meeting
    February 8 - 10, 2008
The Grand America Hotel Salt Lake City, Utah

The ASDIN 4th Annual Scientific Meeting, February 8 -10, 2008 in Salt Lake City was a huge success!

Salt Lake City was THE place to be February 8 - 10, 2008 as ASDIN hosted its 4th Annual Scientific Meeting at the Grand America Hotel.  The meeting was an exceptional learning and interactive experience for all participants in an extraordinary and truly “grand” hotel.

Approximately 240 physicians, nurses, and technologists, as well as 100 exhibitor representatives experienced a variety of cutting edge presentations from leaders in the field of interventional nephrology. Many attendees noted how much they enjoyed and valued the ASDIN meeting because of the important and personal interaction and networking experience with the meeting faculty and their colleagues.

The success of the meeting is a true testament to the growth of the discipline over a very brief period of time.  The success of ASDIN's Scientific Meeting should spur continued research and study in the field, as well as improved patient care.

    Special Award Presentations

The ASDIN Lifetime Achievement Award, was presented to one of ASDIN’s founding members - Stephen R. Ash, MD - a man of a great many talents who is the author of more than 30 patents, and who has been equally instrumental in the success and growth of ASDIN, as he has been to the development of artificial organs and the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO).

Attendees were also treated to surprise guest and special award recipient, Michael Brescia, MD. Dr. Brescia, who developed the Brescia-Cimino Fistula more than 38 years ago, shared his moving and very personal story about the conditions of renal patient care at the time and the inspiration that led him to develop this groundbreaking procedure as a young, 33-year-old physician. He also spoke of his father who encouraged him to publish and share the information as quickly as possible to save many of the estimated 50,000 people who died each year from renal failure.
