In response to a question that someone submitted to NCII concerning the coding of fibrin sheath removal – 36595-52 which we have recommend for use since 2011, NCII has ruled that this code is not appropriate and should not be used.

In its place the code for fibrin sheath removal that is appropriate (NCII) is 37799 (unlisted procedure, vascular surgery)

The ASDIN/RPA Coding Manual recommends that in cases in which there is venous stenosis present in the vein in addition to a fibrin sheath, the case should be coded as 37248 (venous angioplasty performed from a site other than the dialysis access), this recommendation has not changed.

Thank you,
