First Aid PowerPoint

This PowerPoint will help the interventionalist recognize some of the complications that occur during PD catheter placement. Tips are provided on how to prevent and manage these complications as well.  Understanding peritoneographic images is crucial and hence we have provided cine as well as still images on different peritoneographic patterns.  The PowerPoint is presented as a series of questions with answers on subsequent slides.

LSU Video - Fluoroscopy Guided Peritoneal Dialysis Catheter Placement

 

 This short video captures all the steps of the fluoroscopic PD placement.
It is divided into a number of sections:

·      Pre-op assessment

·      Equipment: use Hawkins bunt needle

·      Table setup

·      Selecting catheters (briefly discusses commonly used catheters). 

·      Procedure


Tips provided include:

- How to avoid epigastric vessels during placement

- How to choose the exist site

- Recognize an appropriate peritoneographic image following needle insertion into the peritoneum

- Purse stitch of the deep cuff for early PD initiation

- How to lock the PD catheter

Dr. Shukhrat Artikov's Video Series

 

Dr. Shukhrat  Artikov has proved a series of 5 videos. These show a midline approach to PD catheter placement as opposed to the LSU video above. A micropuncture needle is used to gain entry into the peritoneal cavity. The viewer will appreciate the smaller incision used. The interventionist explains why he prefers this technique. In addition, different locations are used to gain entry into an obese abdomen.
