ASDIN Candidates 2024
President-Elect Candidate

Adrian Sequeira, MD, FASDIN
CV
I am Professor of Medicine at LSU Health Shreveport and an active ASDIN member since 2009. In the early years, I served as the Chair of the ASDIN accreditation committee and PD certification subcommittee as well as contributing to the coding manual. I have also been fortunate to Chair our ASDIN annual meetings. The last one was our first meeting post COVID and we held our first POCUS session. It was indeed good to meet everyone in person again. I strongly support ASDINs academic mission. I have authored several publications, book chapters and contributed to INSAP. I have been a speaker and workshop teacher at several pre-courses organized by ASN, NKF and ASDIN and have educated nurses on dialysis access at local ANNA meetings.
I would also like to see ASDIN play a pivotal role in the international arena. ASDIN should participate in innovative research thereby ensuring quality of care to our patient population. I strongly support partnerships between similar societies. My vision is to collaboratively improve vascular access care, promote member engagement and advance our specialty.

Ammar Almehmi, MD, FASDIN
CV
Over the years, I am an active member of ASDIN and a regular participant in its annual meeting. As chair of educational committee, I authored the interventional nephrology primers (3 parts) that was endorsed by ASDIN. I am honored to serve on ASDIN Council since 2020.
Academically, I lead the IN-fellowship program at UAB for more than 8 years in which I train 6 IR fellows, 1 IN fellow and more than 30 radiology residents. Additionally, I supervise many junior faculty members, fellows, medical and PhD students in their scholarly activities and grants. Over the years, as a contribution to IN field, more than 130 peer review articles and abstracts. Recently, I completed the interventional nephrology chapter for Brenner’s The Kidney Textbook. I also serve on several editorial boards.
In the current competitive environment, the survival of the field is essential. As Secretary/Treasurer, I foresee that this can be accomplished through 1) increase the collaboration between ASDIN and other access related societies; 2) increase the educational material of dialysis access procedures using different formats (YouTube, animation, short clips); 3) increase the number of IN fellowship training programs; 4) establish a meaning collaboration with industry to support the mission of ASDIN.

I have attended every ASDIN Meeting since 2006 and have had the honor of participating as an invited speaker, poster presenter and research podium presenter.
As the ASDIN Secretary/Treasurer, I will serve and uphold the mission of the Society to promote excellence in dialysis access care to improve outcomes for patients with kidney disease. My 19 years as an academic interventional nephrologist will provide the Society with additional expertise in education and clinical research. Honored by the ASDIN Councilor nomination, I've been actively engaged in furthering ASDIN's mission, contributing significantly to various committees, and taking on leadership roles, striving to make a meaningful difference.
As the senior Co-Chair for the 2024 Annual Meeting, building on the triumphant 2023 event, my goal is to curate an iconic celebration commemorating ASDIN's vibrant annual scientific gathering's 20th anniversary, fostering innovation and collaboration.
I revamped the organizing committee and, alongside my Co-chair, raised over $300,000. This support enhances ASDIN's educational mission, enabling travel grants for 20 fellows to attend, shaping pathways and nurturing future leaders.
My vision for ASDIN expands across borders, resonating on both national and global levels. I see ASDIN not only as an influential force but also as a proactivecatalyst, fostering dynamic presences and spearheading transformative initiatives. Proudly serving as an Invited Member of the Transforming Dialysis Access Together (TDAT) Initiative in collaboration with ASN, our participation underscores the profound importance of ASDIN's engagement and impact both nationally and beyond. I firmly believe that through forging strategic partnerships and pioneering innovative endeavors, ASDIN will solidify its pivotal role in revolutionizing dialysis access and shaping the future landscape of renal care on a global scale.

I completed residency in internal medicine and fellowships in nephrology and kidney transplantation at UCLA. Subsequently completed a dedicated fellowship in interventional nephrology at the University of Michigan. Since then I am certified by the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology (ASDIN) for vascular access procedures, including obliteration of accessory veins, subcutaneous port placement and permanent peritoneal dialysis catheters-fluoroscopic technique. I have been a full time interventional nephrologist for the last 5 years, and currently the medical director of Central Arkansas Vascular & Dialysis Access Care.
I was fortunate to be selected to serve in two ASDIN committees, pAVF and peritoneal dialysis. I make sure to remain active with ASDIN via meetings, conferences and what ASDIN’s membership offers from access to the latest papers to interesting controversial discussions between members on dialysis access.
I devoted my career to patients with end stage kidney disease, and my goal is to provide exceptional dialysis access care, and ASDIN helped with my mission. ASDIN’s professional faculty are dedicated in promoting excellence in dialysis access care to help improve outcomes for patients with kidney disease via there magnificent meetings and other forms of teaching their membership offers.
Whether I become a counselor or not, I will always help ASDIN accomplish its goals, and will continue to contribute and learn from ASDIN. Thank you for reading my statement and thank you for voting.

I am excited to announce my candidacy for the position of ASDIN Councilor, offering a platform to represent the voice and aspirations of the younger generation within our esteemed society.
During my time as the head of the interventional training program at The Dialysis Access Institute, working alongside Dr. John Ross, I have been fortunate to engage and collaborate with some of the most brilliant minds in our field. These experiences have significantly influenced my vision for ASDIN.
Throughout my journey in Interventional Nephrology, I've witnessed the challenges hindering ASDIN from fully achieving its core purpose. I firmly believe that the enthusiastic and energetic efforts of our passionate young members hold the key to overcoming these obstacles.
If I am entrusted with the role of Councilor, I will commit to drive the necessary changes to propel ASDIN forward. I aim to bridge the gap between the different Nephrology societies, creating an inclusive environment that encourages growth and progress.
